The Artist = the following artical is from the Cape Coral Breeze news paper
I would like very much try to bring my passion
for life to you through our business and this web site. (The following is article from the Cape Coral Daily Breeze in May
of 1996) Cape exhibit artist's love of wildlife, by Norman Conquest. Art is in the eye of the beholder, just as is beauty,
and these old eyes looked at a lot of art at the Cultural Park Theater. The lobby exhibition is going on now during the run
of the current play, "How the Other Half loves." John William Wheat is the artist's name, and jot that down, because you'll
be hearing a lot about him in the future. Many years ago, Wellington Ward was a neighbor of mine on Connie Mack Island. Some
of his paintings were sold for four and five hundred dollars, and are now worth four and five thousand Ah, hind sight. Wheat's
paintings, are, in some instances, priced in about that category, and will certainly increase in value. But art shouldn't
be looked upon as just an investment, although it's a lot more fun to look at than stocks and bonds. It should be something
to enhance the value of your life. It's hard to put into words, but some paintings can make me stop and reflect on all the
rest of my world. Wheat's work does that. When you see a great blue heron stalking his prey you can almost smell the sea.
One of his works, "Gulls In Flight," priced surprisingly low at $225, will make you want to go out to the beach instead of
sitting in front of your TV set. This is an acrylic on canvas, as is most of his work. Mixed into the exhibit are some of
Wheat's Ink and wax works, some done on paper and some on board. An interesting medium, and one not seen much in this area.
But as enduring as the sand scripts of time past. Wheat's answer to a question about this training was pretty amusing. "I
trained at the same school as Gaugan and Renoir" -- meaning, of course, that he is self-taught. Not one of your "Sunday painters"
or a hobby painting, Wheat had such an overpowering urge to paint that he dropped everything else. His father exposed John
to his first love of the painter's life, as a curator of the Toledo Art Museum. His really only formal training was in architectural
drafting and color photography. You can see some of the results in his fineness that you of detail in the drawings, and the
use of the primary colors. It gives his outdoors scenes a lushness that you seldom see unless you've been there. Although
not possible to exhibit in a gallery, Wheat works on huge paintings and murals. A tiger jumping out of your garage door would
certainly discourage prowlers. Or how about a wolf at your front door? If you visit the Little School House Theater you will
see some of Wheat's portraiture in a painting of Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. John has also had showings at the National
Wildlife Gallery in Fort Myers, and Big Arts Gallery of Sanibel Island, Imagen That Gallery Sanibel Island. end of quote.
I have worked the last 15 years or more for Hilton Grand Vacations Sanibel island Resort,South Seas Plantation Resort on captiva
island, and most recently at Tarpin Landings, at Tarpin Point Marina in Cape Coral, Florida mainly working as a Maintenance
tech supervisor. But now my wish and passion is to paint or teach painting and the joy's that come with it. John
At 59 years old I am finally breaking free of the 9 to 5 work force to follow my passion in painting, and wall Murals. I have
a knowledge and back ground to teach what is to me the passion of my life. I have been interested in starting my own business
for many years and am excited to finally have reached that goal. Taking this knowledge and business to the web makes the
process even more exciting. I do hope to find people of all ages to pass on what I have learned, that brings so much pleasure
to me the last 25 years or better. and would like to share this with you, some say its a gift, others say its a talent, but
have found out for myself that is just knowledge that can be learned by anyone at any age.
